Post 8 - A Subject you've enjoyed studying this semester

This semester I have been fascinated with a natural disasters related class and psychosocial interventions on this natural disasters.

The class is really interesting, we review different disasters that have occurred in our country (like earthquake of 2010) and the around the world (like tsunami in Thailand), and we discuss the interventions that have been made in this situations. For example, we talked about the Chaitén volcano and how the people returned to their homes.

We have also investigated about different disasters and give our personal opinion on this. I researched about how older adults lives natural disasters. It was very interesting and entertaining information. The objective of the class is teaching us how to act in crisis situations, which it’s quite relevant considering the current Chilean context and the accelerated world in we live.

After the readings and the classes, I really liked this class. I would like to work on similar interventions in the near future

Post 7 - An Expert on my field

There are a lot of people that I admire: musicians, artists, academics, etc. But there is an expert on the psychology field who I really like, He is Lev Vygotsky 

Vygotsky was born in 1896 and died in 1934. He was an important Soviet developmental psychologist, because he proposed a theory of the development of "higher psychological functions", and also he introduces the notion of the zone of proximal development, which is the difference what a child can do without help and what he cannot do. This concept is able of describing the potential of human cognitive development. 

His work include books as "Tool and symbol in child development", "Thinking and Speech", "Educational Psychology", and my favorite: "Mind in Society: The Development of Higher Psychological Processes"

I really like him because in my opinion he are important for the developmental psychologist and the educational work; and actually Vygotsky’s works is used in a lot of educational establishment where his method helps to promote the personal Childs development. 

Post 6 - My favorite Festivity

My favorite festivity is halloween or All Saints' Eve, It's celebrated on october 31 in a lot on christians and many non-christians countries. Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals particularly the Samhain, a celebration for the end of harvest season and the begining of winter. 

In Chile, Halloween activities include dress-up halloween costumes, travel from house to house asking for candys, visiting haunted attractions like "Cementerio Metropolitano" and  tell horror stories.

I really like this celebration because every year I play pranks with my friends and we see horror movies. It's an entertaining day. Another reason because I really like this celebration it's cause the name of my favorite music band is based on halloween, and they have a song called "Halloween" that is about this festivity.

I my opinion, this festivity is very enjoyable because there is a lot of activities to do, the costumes are very cool and the decorated house very well.

"Meet the others at the store,
Knock on other people's door
Trick or treat they have the choice
Little ghost's are makin'lotsa noise (...)"

Post 5: A photograph

What you see in this photograph is the Himeji Castle located in Hyogo, Japan. This photograph is part of the book "Maravillas del mundo" and it was taken by Michael Yamashita, a professional photographer. This book was given to me by a special person, and allowed me to meet a lot of beautiful and interesting places.

This castle is very beautiful, and is also one of the most important national treasures of Japan, which has remained in good condition for many years, so it has been used in many films of historical representations of Edo period or Tokugawa period, or in famous films like James Bond.

Why did I choose this photo? Because one of my dreams is to visit many parts of the world that are important for the history of humanity, I am also very interested in the stories of medieval Japan.

Post 4 - My Best Friend

My best friend is called Andrea. She was my neighbor for twelve years and she is some year young than me (so I call she "little sister"). We never go to the same school, but we shared a lot of time together. We like to play music, so we expend a lot of time learning and practice songs. Also we like to cook, but we are'nt good at cooking so we cooked a lot of strange disgunsting meals 

I really appreciate her friendship, she is a very funny and friendy person. Andrea is the kind of person who can cheer up the sadness day. I feel lucky to meet she and share a lot of great moments.

Now she lives very far, because she is studyng engineering in a  university in north of Chile, but we meet every summer with our other friends to play music together and share stories.

Post 3 - My Favorite piece of technology

I really like technology, because it's a important component in ours lives. We can talk with friends who are far away, we can watch movies and listen to music everywhere, and we can research about everything. 

My favorite piece of tecnology it's my videogame console: a nintendo 3ds. I bought it four years ago, but I have worked so hard for a big time to get the money. With my videoconsole I can listen music, see videos and play videogames with my friends everywhere. It allow me to have fun even when I'm alone. I use it every day, when I travel to my house, before sleep and when I have a friend get-together. 

My life without my videoconsole would be strange, because I'm used to use it in my long travels to my house.

Post 1 - My Auto Biography

Hello ! 😃

My name is Luis Navarro. I'm 21 years old and I am studying psychology in Universidad de Chile. My hobbies include play piano, draw and play videogames. 

I lives in Peñaflor with my parents, my little brother and my four dogs, but i spend a lot of time in my big brother's house. Peñaflor it's a beautiful place, with a lot of trees and cute animals.

I like English very much. My favorite bands (like Helloween or Papa Roach) sings in English and the most of videogame i was played are in English. But for me the most dificult aspect it's the pronunciation.

I am very exciting to post and learn english with this blog. See ya!
